Casa Mediterraneo was born in 2009 in the province of Alicante as a non-profit institution aimed at fostering relations among the countries of the Mediterranean basin. It is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, the Valencian region and the city councils of Alicante and Benidorm.
We work to attain a better understanding of the reality of the Mediterranean nations, and to promote relations among their citizens based on tolerance and respect for diversity. Over the last three years, thousands of people have had the chance to discover different aspects of the Mediterranean region by attending hundreds of our events, including seminars, conferences, debates, exhibitions, musical performances and film festivals.
These activities have helped to overcome stereotypes and to foster an open and inclusive dialogue which has served to strengthen bonds of friendship and cooperation between Spain and other Mediterranean countries.
Our main objectives are:
- To contribute to the promotion of peace, security and shared economic prosperity in the Mediterranean region.
- To work hand by hand with civil society and institutions in the Mediterranean basin to gain a better understanding of their interests and priorities, and to seek the exchange of useful knowledge for the benefit of all.
- To raise awareness among the Spanish citizens of the reality of Mediterranean countries.
- To assist Spain’s public diplomacy in its relations with the Mediterranean nations.
